After a year under his belt in the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge, teenager Tyler Maxson is set to start a new season with a new team. Inking a deal to drive for the powerhouse Bryan Herta Autosport (BHA) Hyundai program, Maxson will get his 2022 race campaign underway this weekend at the famed Daytona International Speedway during the annual Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona.
“To say that I am anxious and excited is an understatement,” explained Maxson, who drove for BHA this past weekend at the Roar Before the Rolex 24 test weekend. “We had a great test here over the weekend during the annual Roar Before the 24 and checked a lot of boxes. I have a new co-driver this year in Mason Filippi and a new team in Bryan Herta Autosport so there are lot of things to learn and better understand before our first event of the season.”
A multi-time podium winner in the IMSA program, Tyler is up for the challenge of a new season and increased pressure competing under the BHA banner. Set to compete alongside Mason Filippi in the #77 Hyundai Elantra N TCR entry, Maxson and his co-driver bring experience and knowledge to a program that is synonymous with winning.
Maxson added, “I met Bryan a few years ago and have been friends with Mason, and raced with him on the same team last year, so all the faces are familiar to me. We are all looking forward to a great season of racing and hopefully when we get to the final checkered flag later in the year, our names are at the top of the championship point standings.”
Hitting the track on Wednesday morning for the first of three practice sessions, qualifying will take place on Thursday afternoon prior to the four-hour race on Friday. Stay tuned for news, information, photos and results via the ‘Tyler Maxson Racing’ social media channels.
