Debuting with Copeland Motorsports late in 2018, Tyler Maxson is now ready to make his first Battery Tender Global MX-5 Cup Presented by BF Goodrich Tires series start. As a podium and race winner already in 2019, Maxson will compete at the famed Circuit of the Americas (COTA) in Austin, Texas, a facility in where he garnered a third place result earlier this season.

“I really like COTA and had some success their last month,” expressed Maxson. “I also had some bad luck so I hope that is now off my plate. While I was competing in my Mazda against other vehicle makes and models, the goal was to gain experience for this coming weekend. I am anticipating increased competition as the Global MX-5 Cup field is stacked with talent but am ready for the challenge.”

As one driver in a four car Copeland Motorsports effort, Maxson will engage with his teammates as the quartet look towards the front of the pack.

Maxson added, “I am confident that I will be able to hold my own, but it is reassuring to know that I have some great drivers within the same team that we can overlay data, video and work together on items. While a few of us are rookies, we do have the experience of Bryan Ortiz who is a multi-time race winner from last season so I am really looking forward to working with him as well as Michael Carter and Tyler Gonzalez.”

With several weekends of experience under his belt already this season, Tyler has been consistent in his speed and results in both SCCA competition and the TC America program. With race wins and podium results to his credit, the young 14-year-old will continue to push hard this weekend in Texas.

“Tyler is a bright, young talent who has a long future in motorsports,” explained Team Owner Dean Copeland. “He comes from international karting experience and has transitioned to cars with ease. He is very comfortable in our program and behind the wheel of a Mazda, so I am only expecting an even better driver as the season goes on.”

With two practice sessions on the docket for Friday, qualifying will take place on Saturday morning before wheel-to-wheel competition kicks off with the first of two races Saturday afternoon. Sunday morning will be the home for race two of the weekend as there are two chances to claim the checkers in Texas.
