This past weekend, the Porsche Carrera Cup North America staged rounds three and four of its championship at the Miami International Autodrome, running alongside the Formula 1 Grand Prix. Tyler Maxson, representing TOPP Racing, delivered a strong showing with a podium finish and another top-ten result, his fourth of the season.
Maxson struggled early with speed in practice, clocking the eighth-fastest time in session one and fell outside the top-ten in session two and was classified 13th on the charts. The Georgia resident rebounded in qualifying, securing seventh on the starting grid for race one.
In the first wheel-to-wheel action of the weekend, Maxson charged forward over the 40-minute contest, sealing a second-place finish with a decisive last-lap pass. Earning his first podium result of the 2025 season, it was the third for TOPP Racing through three races.
“We fought hard in race one, and it paid off, ” Maxson explained. “It feels great to get a podium finish after pushing right until the end. I just need to qualify better. The competition in this series makes it very hard to pass. What a track this is in Miami, and to race alongside F1 is cool, but to stand on the podium for the first time in 2025 is a great feeling.”
In race two, Maxson was in the thick of the action, engaging in multiple battles before crossing the line in seventh. Earning his fourth top-ten in as many races, Maxson has been a model of consistency that will pay off as the 2025 championship continues.
Maxson continued, “This weekend, we showed we’re contenders in this championship. While I would have hoped for a better result in race two, a podium and a seventh-place finish make for a solid weekend, and I believe we can keep building from here. Next, Maxson and his fellow Porsche Carrera Cup North America competitors will head to Canada’s Circuit Gilles Villeneuve for rounds five and six, June 13-15.
