With three podium results in the SRO Motorsports Group TC America program, Georgia resident Tyler Maxson is hunting for his first win of 2019. After a third place result at the opening round in Austin, Texas and a pair of second place finishes at the Virginia International Raceway, Maxson is second in the overall point standings and leading the Rookie of the Year honors as he aims for the top step of the podium this coming weekend at the 2.52-mile natural terrain road course, Sonoma Raceway.
“I am really looking forward to our trip out west,” explained Maxson. “It has been a good year in TC America competition to date, but my goal this weekend is to continue my podium streak, but hopefully with a victory. The Copeland Motorsports team always gives me a great car, we just need to connect the dots and make it all happen.”
Behind the wheel of his Copeland Motorsports Mazda MX-5 #74, Maxson will hope to put the Mazda brand back on top in California.
“Tyler has been a force each and every weekend and a threat for podium results,” explained Copeland Motorsports Team Owner Dean Copeland. “At only 14-years of age, Tyler has a very bright future and a long career in sports car racing.”
Maxson continued, “We have been fast at most of the events. I have been working hard at my feedback with the team and developing a good setup for our car that lasts all race long. Mazda, the team and myself all deserve a win so we are hoping that can come this weekend in Sonoma.”
On track action will begin Friday with practice while qualifying and wheel-to-wheel racing will take place Saturday and Sunday. Stay tuned to the Tyler Maxson social media pages for news, information, results and photos from Sonoma Raceway.
