It was a race winning weekend for Copeland Motorsports and Hyundai Veloster N driver Tyler Maxson as the teenager scored three wins on the weekend improving his record to five-for-five on the season. Claiming the pole position on Friday, Maxson went on to lead each and every race lap all weekend long to dominate the TCR class.
“What a weekend!” expressed Maxson. “It has been a dream season on track so far in 2020. We had a three-month delay between the first two event weekends but that allowed us to be more and better prepared and that showed this weekend. We had a few issues during Wednesday’s Promoters Test Day but as a team, we worked through them to keep the momentum going.”
Suffering a brake issue through practice and qualifying, Maxson drove his Hyundai lacking the ABS braking assistance in the first two races of the weekend as his Copeland Motorsports team worked to solve the problem.
By virtue of his fastest lap in the qualifying session, Maxson started the first wheel-to-wheel action of the weekend from inside the front row. Rocketing his way forward to build a gap, the #74 entry took the first win of the weekend but would be forced to start race two from P3.
Maxson continued, “With lap times from the previous race setting the grid for the next, we were not the quickest car on track.”
Taking the green from P3 in race two, the fast teenager quickly made his way to the front and never looked back. Taking the win and scoring the fastest lap of the race that ended under caution, Maxson would start Sunday’s third and final event of the weekend from the pole position.
Looking to repeat his performance, Maxson was up to the challenge and added his third win of the weekend, fifth of the season, on Sunday. Securing five checkered flags to start the season, Maxson has taken a stranglehold on the championship points battle and will look to add more victories in less than one month’s time.
With less than one month until the next event, Tyler Maxson and his Copeland Motorsports team will head west to Sonoma Raceway in Napa, California.
Tyler Maxson would like to thank Copeland Motorsports, Bryan Herta Autosport, Hyundai, HRX USA and Four Seasons Auto Wash for all of their help, support and hard work throughout the 2020 season.
