Competing in a partial Battery Tender Global MX-5 Cup season in 2019 as well as several regional events throughout the state of Florida, Tyler Gonzalez is set for a full slate of action in 2020. Inking a deal with Copeland Motorsports to compete in the TC America program, Gonzalez will pilot a Hyundai Veloster Turbo R-Spec in the ultra-competitive TCA division.
“We are happy to have Tyler back in our program and bring another talented driver to our stable,” explained Copeland Motorsports Dean Copeland. “2019 was not the year that Tyler had hoped for transitioning from karts to cars, but a refocus and regroup late in the season brought some new opportunities to the forefront and we are now here today.”
“Excited is an understatement,” expressed Gonzalez. “The Copeland Motorsports guys have a great program and it is only fitting that we level up to TCA with them and Hyundai. They were a dominant force in many series last year, and I look to help them build upon their resume.”
Joining Copeland Motorsports in 2019, Gonzalez set his sights on the Battery Tender Global MX-5 Cup Presented by BF Goodrich series. 2020 will see a new car, new program, and new plan but the same team for Gonzalez. Competing in the TC America program, Gonzalez is part of a fierce young rookie crop of drivers, as well as one of the youngest on the tour. Driving on some of North America’s most famous tracks, Gonzalez will look to continue Copeland Motorsports success as of late and put his Hyundai at the front of the field.
Gonzalez continued, “With a goal to have a career in racing, I am working hard both on and off the track to support my partners and be a good brand ambassador for my supporters. We have set the bar high this season but will aim even higher once the season starts.”
With the start of the race season only fifty days away, Gonzalez and Copeland Motorsports will continue their offseason test program as they prepare for the season opener at the Circuit of the Americas over the March 6 – 8th weekend
Copeland added, “We will be a Hyundai only team in 2020 at TC America and currently have one Veloster N TCR car available. Winning several races in 2019, this is your chance to get in one of the premiere rides in all of TCR.”
