Competing in a pair of programs in 2022, Tyler Gonzalez will switch his mindset back to the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge this coming weekend. Competing with the Van Der Steur Racing program, Gonzalez and his co-driver Rory Van Der Steur will look to build upon their fifth-place result from the opening round at the Daytona International Speedway as they look to ‘respect the bumps’ this weekend at the Sebring International Raceway.
“It has been a while since our Daytona event, but I know Rory and I are both ready to get back to the racing action,” explained Gonzalez. “Personally, I have had success at Sebring in the past and look forward to my second home state event of the season.”
With no testing and limited driving time as co-drivers, Gonzalez and Van Der Steur drove to an impressive fifth place finish in Daytona. Remaining consistent throughout the weekend and taking advantage of some others’ misfortune, the #19 EFC Systems Inc machine was rewarded with an impressive top-five result after running in the top-three on occasion.
Behind the wheel of a Hyundai Veloster N TCR, Gonzalez will take to the track during the famed Mobil 1 – 12 Hours of Sebring event weekend on Wednesday for a busy day of on track action. With two practice sessions and qualifying between 9:45am and 4:25pm, it will be a hectic Wednesday.
Gonzalez added, “With a jam packed schedule, it will be important to make sure we keep the car clean throughout the day. With qualifying late in the afternoon, we want to make sure that we are prepared the best we can be to make a run at the pole position.”
