Already competing in the Idemitsu Mazda MX-5 Cup and the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge, Tyler Gonzalez will add a third series of competition to his schedule this weekend. Joining Copeland Motorsports and their two-car effort at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, Gonzalez is hoping to battle for the race win in the World Racing League (WRL).

“Copeland Motorsports has proven that they have the capabilities to win in every series and with every car they get their hands on,” explained Gonzalez. “I have a feeling that we will be quite competitive. We have a great team and a solid driver lineup. I’m looking forward to trying to put the Copeland Motorsports car on the top step of the podium.”

In a weekend that will feature a pair of eight-hour endurance races, Gonzalez will pull double duty as he is set to race in both Copeland Motorsports’ prepared Hyundais. The #257 will see Gonzalez flanked by Zach Hollingshead, fellow Mazda MX-5 Cup driver Matt Curry and Joey Atansio, and WRL regular Scott Oliver while the #251 entry will see Gonzalez join Caleb Bacon, Max Opalski and Ariel Castro.

Gonzalez added, “It is going to be a great and fun weekend. We have a big break in our schedule now so lining up to race in the WRL program is a way to get back in the seat. While we all want to have a great time, we are racers and as soon as we put the helmet on, we will be working hard to make sure we are at the front of the field.”

Set to hit the track on Friday, Gonzalez will take part in eight hours of available practice on Friday before the first wheel-to-wheel action of the weekend goes green on Saturday morning. With two eight-hour races over Saturday and Sunday, and an available eight hours of practice on Friday, twenty-four hours of track time is available for all competitors.

Gonzalez continued, “We need to be there at the end. We need to save the equipment and not have any contact. I think we have a good chance to put both cars on the podium but as drivers and as a team, we need to be smart and limit mistakes.”
