Firming up plans for the upcoming race season, Tyler Gonzalez will add the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge to his 2022 schedule. Joining the Van Der Steur Racing effort, Gonzalez will be back behind the wheel of a Hyundai Veloster N TCR as he co-pilots with Rory Van Der Steur in his sophomore IMSA season.

“I am happy to firm all up all my plans for 2022 and can’t wait to get started in a few short weeks,” explained Tyler Gonzalez. “A huge thanks to Tyler Maxson and the Maxson family for everything that they have done for me; we are like a family but sometimes all good things must come to an end. On the other hand, I am anxious to begin a new chapter and race alongside Rory and his family-owned Van Der Steur Racing program. Additionally, I am happy to stick with the Hyundai family and look forward to fighting for race wins and podium results.”

Announcing earlier in the week a Mazda MX-5 Cup program, Gonzalez is now confirmed to compete in the complete IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge program as well.

Gonzalez continued, “The calendar just filled up and the track time more than doubled. It’s like Christmas came early for me this year.”

Claiming multiple pole positions and podium results in 2021, Gonzalez brings knowledge and experience to the Van Der Steur Racing program as the team continues to evolve and grow into a championship caliber program.

“Super happy to race alongside Tyler in 2022,” added Rory Van Der Steur. “He has proven that he is one of the quickest Hyundai drivers in the IMSA paddock and he rounds out our efforts well. We are less than one month away from the first green flag in Daytona, but I know we will approach the weekend with our goals set high and fight hard to be at the front of the field.
