Pirelli GT4 America traveled to The Lone Star State for round five of the season at Circuit of the Americas. This weekend’s event was the inaugural Lonestar Enduro, a three-hour endurance race that counted for double points in the championship. Smooge Racing’s Tyler Gonzalez showed a strong pace throughout the weekend and came home with another solid top-five result.

In the first practice of the weekend on Friday, Gonzalez and teammate John Geesbreght were quick, ultimately setting the fourth-fastest time in class and the ninth-fastest time overall of the session. In practice two, the #68 team was strong again, with Gonzalez setting the quickest time of the session to top the charts.

In qualifying Saturday morning, Geesbreght set the seventh-fastest time in the silver class, meaning the Smooge Racing duo would have some ground to make up during the wheel-to-wheel race. However, with a three-hour race ahead of them, there was potential to move up the field and challenge for a podium result.

Geesbreght started the Saturday night endurance race, piloting the #68 Toyota Gazoo Racing GR Supra GT4 EVO to around the race’s halfway point, where Gonzalez took over the controls. Both drivers ran a solid race and gained several positions, crossing the finish line fifth in class.

“This weekend was tough, especially because we were dealing with an all-new format,” Gonzalez said. “But we showed we have speed, and we’ll definitely fight for more podiums and wins soon. Thank you to John and the entire Smooge Racing team for all the hard work this weekend.”

Gonzalez will be back in the #68 for Smooge Racing for rounds six and seven of the Pirelli GT4 America season at Virginia International Raceway July 19-21
