It was another cross-country trek for the New Mexico-based Cahan Racing Team as Gabriel and Ayrton Cahan were back in action at the Formula Race Promotions (FRP) program. With Gabriel earning two wins in F2000, Ayrton had his best event weekend yet in F1600 with a trio of top-ten results as they battled adverse weather conditions at the ultra-fast Lime Rock Park facility.

Leading the way on the results sheet was Gabriel Cahan, who swept the weekend sessions, earning the pole position and two victories, garnering several points towards his 2024 FRP championship chase. Finishing second on track in race one, Gabriel was elevated to the podium’s top step after a technical infraction by another driver awarded him the win. In race two and in damp conditions, Gabriel was the class of the field, driving to a commanding victory.

“This weekend was the most successful thus far,” explained Gabriel. “We did not have to suffer from any mechanical problems. The first race, however, was stressful, trying to determine whether to go to dry tires or stay on wets. It all worked out in the end, though, finishing first by disqualification of the other driver, which I felt terrible for since he’s a close friend and drove hard that race.”

Gabriel continued, “Later in the day we had a dry track. I was able to take the lead going to green. I was putting down laps, not worried about what was behind me, and we finished first by a significant margin. I want to thank the crew for giving us a great car this weekend and getting the pole, two first-place results, and the fastest laps, a good weekend is an understatement because everything was flawless, except for the weather.”

In F1600, Ayrton Cahan managed a trio of top-ten results, including a pair of seventh-place results in races one and three after a tenth-place result in race two. In one of his best qualifying efforts this season, Ayrton slotted himself into the tenth position and on the outside of row five, which helped him improve his results when the wheel-to-wheel action commenced. Showing speed and having some extra practice in wet weather conditions, Ayrton admittedly became more comfortable with his CRT F1600 machine.

Ayrton Cahan added, “Lime Rock was our most successful weekend thus far, not just on track but also with the car. We had no mechanical problems and are finally starting to understand the car’s ins and outs. It was my first rain race experience, and I was excited to get more practice in the wet. I cannot wait for the next race weekend in Pittsburgh!”

Next up for the Cahan Racing team will be a trip to the Pittsburgh International Race Complex over the June 6-9 weekend in Wampum, Pennsylvania.
