It was off to Anglesey Circuit in Wales this past weekend as American standout Colin Queen put the Stars and Stripes at the top of the BRSCC National Formula Ford Championship point standings. Battling hard at the front of the field, Queen earned a pair of podium results and three top-five finishes to take over the point lead.
“While as a driver I always want to win but it was a good weekend for us in the points chase despite not scoring a win,” expressed Queen. “We had some intense battles but just did not have enough to take the checkered. Super happy to leave Wales with the point lead and shift my focus towards the next event.”
Qualifying third in the thirty-car field, Queen proved his speed and determination as he lined up on the inside of row two for the first wheel-to-wheel action of the event weekend. Settling into position early on, six cars would battle for the win over the complete race distance as Queen crossed the line where he started in third to earn his first podium result of the weekend. Race two would be much of the same as the six car battle for the win was reduced to five as the American held the point on several different occasions. Swapping the lead and eventually finishing in the second position after a red flag ended the race early, Queen catapulted to the top of the championship point standings as he looks to earn the title.
Race three would be a reverse grid race with Queen starting from the outside of row three in the sixth position. After a red flag and restart for a major incident on the first circuit, Queen closed his third and final race of the weekend in the fourth position.
Queen continued, “It is a little disappointing that we could not continue in race two after the red flag as I really thought we had a shot at the win. Happy to walk away with valuable championship points and be noted as the point leader heading into the next race.”
The next stop for Colin Queen and Team Ammonite will be at the Snetteron Circuit in July.
