Brothers Ethan and Jackson Tovo made their Toyota GR Cup debut this past weekend at Sonoma Raceway with Nitro Motorsports, battling through a competitive field in the season opener. Both drivers showed resilience and improvement throughout the weekend, setting a solid foundation for the season ahead.
Jackson Tovo started the weekend by qualifying 14th in the first session, while Ethan Tovo slotted into 17th on the grid. When the green flag flew for race one, the brothers wasted no time moving up and through the field. Jackson pushed his way into the top-ten, finishing ninth, while Ethan worked his way up to 12th, securing a solid result in his first race of the season.
Sunday’s race saw continued progress for Jackson, who improved upon his previous result by finishing eighth. Ethan, despite facing a tougher challenge in race two, fought hard to cross the line in 14th after being forced to serve a drive-through penalty early on in the race. Both drivers gained valuable experience in their first event of the season and are eager to build on their performances moving forward.
“We had a solid weekend to start the season, and I’m happy with the progress we made,” explained Jackson Tovo. “Getting into the top-ten in both races was a great way to kick things off, and I know there’s more pace to find as we move forward. I accomplished my goal this weekend, and I’m looking forward to our next event in Texas and working my way further up the grid.”
Ethan Tovo added, “Sonoma was a big learning experience for me, and I’m taking a lot away from it. There were some positives, and I know what I need to work on for the next round. I had fun overcoming the penalty in race two and driving back through the field in difficult conditions. I’m excited to keep improving with Nitro Motorsports as the season goes on.”
The Tovo brothers will be back on track for the next Toyota GR Cup event at Circuit of the Americas from April 25-27, where they will look to build on their strong start to the season.
