It was a great debut for Team Benik – BN Racing in the Indy Pro 2000 Championship Presented by Copper Tires this past weekend at Road America. With Jacob Loomis and Sabre Cook behind the wheel, the duo scored three top-ten results last Friday as the Road to Indy season kicked off in Wisconsin. With a busy schedule, Team Benik will return to the track this weekend for the opening round of the 2020 United States Pro Kart Series (USPKS) at New Castle Motorsports Park.

“It was a good start to our Indy Pro 2000 campaign as the talent pool of that series is pretty deep,” explained Nick Mitchell. “To come out of the box with very little testing, drivers that have not been in the car that often at one of the longest and toughest tracks in North America and finish sixth and tenth in the first wheel-to-wheel action of the season is great, but that just left us hungrier for more at future events.”

With very little time off due to the COVID-19 driven schedule and all the changes and delays that have come as a result of that, the karting side of the Team Benik program will compete at one of North America’s premier karting facilities this weekend. Entering a trio of drivers at New Castle Motorsports Park, Team Benik will be looking to build on the momentum gained at their last event where they garnered a victory and multiple podiums.

Mitchell added, “Busy is good, and we are entering a pretty busy part of the calendar. We have a small team in Indiana this weekend but have drivers that can run at the front of each of the classes they entered. New Castle is notorious for the long back straightaway and last lap passes for the win, so we will look to put ourselves in the right position for those scenarios.”

Recent race winner Asher Ochstein will fly the Team Benik colors in the Micro Swift division as he comes off his first national level victory a few weeks ago. Showing the speed to run at the front of the field, Ochstein will look to keep the momentum rolling in New Castle. Brayden Traver will be the lone Team Benik competitor in the Mini Swift class and will aim towards the top step of the podium while Michael Costello will do battle in X30 Junior.

With unofficial practice taking place on Thursday afternoon, official USPKS sessions will take place on Friday before a pair of race days on Saturday and Sunday. Stay tuned to the Team Benik social media pages for news, results and photos from the event.
