David Malukas, driver of the #79 HMD Trucking entry for BN Racing, scored two top-five finishes this past weekend at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio. In one of his most consistent weekends of the season, Malukas was able to safely bring his car home and advanced forward in wheel-to-wheel action from his morning qualifying efforts.
“We have had some bad luck in recent weekends,” Malukas stated. “But this past weekend looks like we can finally start gaining some momentum and moving towards the front of the field. Finishing in the top-five during both races certainly is not bad, but as a driver, I will always want to win.”
Qualifying in the eighth position for rounds 12 and 13 of the season, Malukas had the challenge of having to work his way up through the field. During the first two laps of race one, the HMD Trucking backed driver was able to work his way up into the fifth position. At the start of race two, Malukas was again able to get a jump at the start gaining two positions in the first lap, and then later in the race making another move to work his way up to the fifth place position.
After rounds 12 and 13 at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, Malukas finds himself in the sixth position of the 2019 Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires Championship points standings. With only five rounds and one test session remaining, the driver of the #79 machine is hoping to finish out his rookie season strong.
“I know I can race up at the front of the field, and I believe I have proven that throughout the season and my past racing experience, now we just need to get all the different moving parts involved in a race weekend to work together and put together a solid weekend.”
Before heading to the next round and final oval of the season at World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway in Madison, Illinois, in late August, Malukas will have a one-day test session the week before in order to prepare for the upcoming oval event.
