With years of experience in their stable, TJ Speed will make their Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires debut this coming weekend at the Grand Prix of St. Petersburg. With a pair of rookie drivers, TJ Speed will take on the temporary street circuit in the downtown core as they look to make waves in the Sunshine State.
“We have had a ton of success in the past in different programs, but we are all rookies in Indy Lights in 2022,” explained TJ Speed Motorsports’ Tim Neff. “We have set goals for the season and have the right people in place to do a good job. Kyffin and James have both completed several test sessions, and we are ready to get the season started.”
Moving from the FR Americas program, Kyffin Simpson enters the Indy Lights program as the series champion looking to make waves in Indy Lights. Teamed with multi-time FIA and Road to Indy race winner James Roe, TJ Speed enters 2022 with a potent combination that in time, will challenge for podium results.
Neff continued, “We are all learning in 2022, and we look to grow as the season moves on. I bring a lot of experience from my past that will help my drivers, but they also bring knowledge that will help us as a team. By the end of the season, I believe we will have a couple of race winners on my hand, and I am looking forward to having the TJ Speed drivers on the top step of the podium.”
Having put many miles on their Dallara IL-15s in recent months, TJ Speed is now primed and ready for their biggest challenge. Taking on the barrier lined streets of picturesque St. Petersburg, Florida, the goal is simple for the all-new program.
“We want to finish every lap of every session,” added Neff. “Our drivers not only need experience, but they also need track time to better their abilities and increase their experience for the future. From there, we will see where the chips fall, but I think both Kyffin and James can be in the top-five by the time the final checkered flag flies on Sunday.”
TJ Speed will hit the track on Friday on three different occasions including the one and only practice session, qualifying and warmup prior to the first green flag of the 2022 season on Sunday morning.
