In racing, you win some and lose some, and Black Sheep Racing won more than they lost at Circuit of the Americas (COTA) this weekend in the third round of the Porsche Sprint Challenge USA West by Yokohama series. However, a devastating crash for Laura Ely ended her first round of the Porsche Endurance Challenge before it could even begin after earning a podium result in race one of the weekend.

After a practice day on Friday, Laura Ely battled her way up from a fourth-place start to a second-place finish in the Porsche Sprint Challenge USA West 992 Masters race one of the weekend on Saturday morning, with Greg Herback also taking the green flag in second and following through to second in the Cayman Master class in the #49 car at the finish line. Race two on Sunday saw Herback with a repeat of a second-place finish, but a race incident ended Laura Ely’s second wheel-to-wheel action early.

Greg Herback and Paul Whiting competed in the Porsche Endurance Challenge Sunday afternoon, but the damage to the #209 car from Laura Ely’s crash in race two was too significant, and she was, unfortunately, unable to make the start of the race. Herback and Whiting battled their way to a 19th-place finish in the hour-long race.

Laura Ely added, “It was a tough weekend, but I still had a podium finish in race one. It was a shame we couldn’t showcase Ashleigh Frieberg’s skills in the Endurance race, but we’ll come back ready to battle in the next one.”

Black Sheep Racing will travel to WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca from June 21st through the 23rd for the next Porsche Sprint Challenge USA West event alongside the NTT INDYCAR SERIES. The Porsche Endurance Challenge will rejoin the PSCUW at their following event, August 9th through the 11th at Road America.
