Fresh off a pair of 1 – 2 finishes at the ROK Cup USA Epcot Challenge, Speed Concepts Racing (SCR) make the northern trek from their home base in Orlando, Florida to the Midwest. Competing in a pair of events at the New Castle Motorsports Park facility just 45 minutes east of Indianapolis, the elite operation would take part in this past weekend’s United States Pro Kart Series (USPKS) Hoosier State Grand Prix in preparation for the final round of the SuperKarts! USA (SKUSA) Pro Tour, the SKUSA SummerNationals.

“It has been a busy, but successful few weeks,” explained SCR founder Mike Speed. “We had an amazing event at the Epcot Challenge where we were able to garner a pair of victories and four podiums and now are racing at one of our favorite tracks in the United States. Congrats to Jeremy Fairbairn and Tyler Gonzalez on their 1 – 2 finish in ROK Junior as well as to Alex Powell and Kyffin Simpson who managed the same feat in Vortex Mini ROK two weekends ago in Orlando.”

Exploding on to the scene at the beginning of the 2017 season, Speed Concepts Racing (SCR) added more wins and podiums this past weekend to their already stout resume. In Saturday’s wheel-to-wheel competition, three Speed Concepts Racing drivers would end the X30 Junior main event in the top-five with Tyler Maxson leading the way in third, Jeremy Fairbairn in fourth and Tyler Gonzalez in fifth. A non-performance enhancing technical item was caught in post-race technical inspection and Maxson was relegated to the tail of the field advancing Fairbairn and Gonzalez to third and fourth respectively.

Returning to the track Sunday, SCR powered drivers would show the same speed as all three would end the main event in the top-five. Gonzalez continued his tremendous season adding to his personal resume with the X30 Junior victory. Waiting for the proper moment to mount his challenge, the Florida resident and multi-time karting champion took the point early in the final and never looked back. Tyler Maxson made it two Speed Concepts Racing drivers in the top-three with a third place effort while Jeremy Fairbairn made three in the top-five with a fourth place effort.

In the IAME Mini Swift class, Speed Concepts Racing would enter a trio of drivers in Alex Powell, Kyffin Simpson and Paul Bocuse. While all three showed speed throughout the weekend, it would be Powell who claimed the team’s best results in the class on the strength of a second place podium result Saturday and an eighth place finish Sunday. Kyffin Simpson would be close behind Powell on both days finish fourth and ninth while Paul Bocuse rebounded from a first corner incident Saturday to claim a 16th place result Sunday.

Speed added, “I would like to thank my team; the drivers, mechanics and especially for the families for all of their help, support and hard work. More success to come!”
