Beginning this weekend, HMD Motorsports will commence a three-week journey as they finish out both the INDY NXT by Firestone and NTT INDYCAR SERIES seasons in back-to-back-to-back event weekends. Starting the journey close to home, both series will begin at World Wide Technology Raceway just outside of St. Louis, Missouri this upcoming weekend, August 26-27, before heading to the West Coast to finish out the year.
In its two years since forming a team and joining INDY NXT by Firestone, HMD Motorsports has garnered two wins, both with David Malukas, in a double-header weekend in 2021, and four additional podiums at World Wide Technology Raceway. Last year in his rookie NTT INDYCAR SERIES season, David Malukas drove a phenomenal race on the 1.25-mile oval to finish second, his career-best result so far.
Earlier this season, HMD Motorsports won the only other oval race on the INDY NXT schedule with Christian Rasmussen at Iowa Speedway. In the NTT INDYCAR SERIES, David Malukas has had a strong oval race season, finishing 12th and eighth at Iowa Speedway and fourth at Texas Motor Speedway.
Maintaining a commanding lead of the INDY NXT by Firestone Championship all season long, HMD Motorsports has had both Christian Rasmussen and Nolan Siegel leading the championship at various points throughout the season. Currently, Christian Rasmussen continues to lead the field after claiming three wins this season. In the ten rounds completed thus far, HMD Motorsports has won seven races with additional wins from Danial Frost, Reece Gold, and Nolan Siegel. With seven full-time HMD Motorsports drivers competing this year, six of them remain in the top-ten of the championship.
In a condensed two-day weekend, INDY NXT by Firestone will complete practice, qualifying, and their 75-lap race on Saturday while the NTT INDYCAR SERIES will have two practices and qualifying on Saturday followed by the 260-lap Bommarito Automotive Group 500 on Sunday afternoon. With a strong oval setup and capable drivers, HMD Motorsports will be going for the win in both INDY NXT by Firestone and the NTT INDYCAR SERIES.
