With the first green flag of the season just a few weeks away, Ohio resident Seth Lucas is set for his first full season in the Pirelli GT4 America program. Set to pilot a Toyota Supra GT4 with the newly announced Hattori Motorsports effort, Lucas will race alongside veteran Matt Plumb in the SprintX class as the duo aim for race wins and podium results as they chase the Pirelli GT4 America SprintX series championship.
“Definitely excited and anxious to get the season going,” expressed the 16-year-old Seth Lucas. “The off season seems abnormally long this year, and there is a lot of build up as we get closer to the first race of the season. For me, it is a new series, new car, new team, and new co-driver, but I am confident in the abilities of our program. I think we will surprise some people at the first race.”
With support from Motul USA, the Lucas, Plumb and Hattori Motorsports GR Supra GT4 entry is a major part of the Toyota Gazoo Racing program and will see action in not only Pirelli GT4 America, but also select Trans-Am Series events.
Lucas continued, “While we are a customer racing program, we are approaching the season as a factory effort. Perception wise, we want to be the team in the paddock that everyone looks at and on track, we want to be the program that is consistently at the front of the field battling for results.”
“We are very excited to expand our program and diversify our efforts with a GT4 sports car team,” Shige Hattori said. “We’ve had a lot of success winning races and titles on the NASCAR side over recent years and feel like this is the right time to expand to sports car competition. I’ve watched Seth race since he ran go karts and am looking forward to watching him develop in our Toyota GR Supra. Matt Plumb has a great deal of experience that will be able to help Seth and speed up the development of our program.”
While the first green flag of 2022 is not until the April 15-17 weekend at the famed Sonoma Raceway, Lucas will compete at some of North America’s premier facilities this season.
