Ryan Shehan has headed across the pond to the famed Mugello Circuit in Italy. As part of his FR Americas vice-champion prize from 2023, the Texas-native will be racing in the fifth round of the Ligier European Series, partaking in his first foray into sportscar racing!
Shehan will pilot the #86 Ligier JS2 R under the Les Deux Ardres banner for two one-hour endurance races, including a pit stop and a driver change with co-pilot Sita Vanmeert, both firsts for Shehan. With only two 40-minute practice sessions to acclimate to the car and track, the team will participate in back-to-back qualifying sessions before the wheel-to-wheel races.
The Mugello Circuit has famously been owned by Ferrari since 1988 and has hosted Formula 1, Formula 2, Formula 3, and countless other sportscar and endurance events. The Ligier European Series is visiting the circuit for the first time and runs on the support bill for the prestigious European Le Mans Series and the Michelin Le Mans Cup. It will be a great opportunity for Shehan to mingle in a paddock full of sports cars and endurance icons at such a historic circuit.
“I’m very thankful for this opportunity,” explained Ryan Shehan. “Without the generous award from the FR Americas Championship, Ligier Automotive, and Mo Murray (CEO – Ligier Automotive North America), I wouldn’t be racing this weekend. I’m confident I can adapt quickly and hopefully bring a good result in my first endurance event. I’m looking to gain crucial sportscar experience and hopefully bring home a few trophies.”
Ryan will take to the track Thursday for testing followed by practice and qualifying Friday and a doubleheader race day on Saturday. You can tune in to both races live on YouTube.
