With the first round of the United States Pro Kart Series (USPKS) this weekend, Ruben Cherres will aim to put his name at the top of the charts in two different classes at the Ocala Gran Prix (OGP) facility in Ocala, Florida. Competing in both the KA100 Senior and X30 Masters class, Cherres is ready to compete against a stout field of USPKS competition. Hailing from Peru but residing in Tampa, Cherres will pilot an AM Engines powered SLAKart over the March 12-14 event weekend.

“I am really looking forward to the weekend and to see how I will fare in two classes,” explained Ruben Cherres. “This is my first big race with the KA100 and X30 having competed in big events in LO206. It would be a dream come true to be able to be in the podium this weekend, but my main goal is to learn and improve as much as I can since the competition will be extremely difficult. It should definitely be a memorable weekend no matter what happens.”

Pulling double duty, Cherres is looking to elevate the SLAKart brand to the forefront of national level racing in the United States. Competing and faring well at the ROK Cup USA Florida Winter Tour, SLAKart is predominantly seen in the 100cc classes.

Having experience in Pro Boxing and Soccer, karting was relatively easy to pick up for the now 35-year-old.

Cherres continued, “I need to thank everyone who has helped me get here. A huge thank you to SLAKart and AM Engines for all the help and support as well as the rest of the karting community for answering my questions as they come up. I only have two years of experience but love this sport and can’t wait for the first green flag of the weekend.”

With unofficial practice taking place on Thursday, official practice will roll off the grid on Friday before two days of wheel-to-wheel action on Saturday and Sunday.
