Fresh off a fourth-place result at Lime Rock Park, Van Der Steur Racing drivers Tyler Maxson and Bryan Ortiz are off to Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin and the famed Road America. Set to battle it out on the 14-turn, 4.048-mile facility that has hosted both NASCAR and INDYCAR events this season, it is time for the IMSA teams and competitors to come to town as Maxson and Ortiz look to earn their maiden win in the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge program.
“We have had some strong results in the last few races as we have been close to the pointy end of the grid,” explained Maxson. “We earned our first podium result in Watkins Glen in late June and battled hard in Canada and at Lime Rock last weekend. Both finishes were decent, but not what could have been if things went just a little bit different, so we are hoping for a little more in Wisconsin.”
Dubbed the Road America 120 and racing alongside the complete family of IMSA race programs, the Saturday and Sunday event weekend will feature a jam-packed Saturday with a pair of practice sessions before qualifying takes to the track later that afternoon. Sunday will see Maxson and Ortiz hit the track only once, but it will be for the most important session of the weekend, the Road America 120.
Piloting a Hyundai Elantra N TCR, Maxson is hoping that track knowledge and experience will aid him and Ortiz in a podium result.
“Both Bryan and I have had some success here in the past albeit in different series,” added Maxson. “However, I think that may be an advantage for us this weekend. The field is tough in the Michelin Pilot Challenge program and while we may be underdogs each race weekend, I am hoping that we can come out on top in the end.”
