As the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge season is nearing an end, the need to gain every point possible is crucial in the race for the 2022 Championship title. 18-year-old championship contender, Tyler Gonzalez, is looking to score big this weekend at the 4.014-mile Road America facility in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin for the IMSA Fast Lane Sportscar Weekend.
Gonzalez’s most recent outing at Lime Rock Park came to a bitter end when contact from another competitor ended his tenth to second stint just shy of the checkered flag and a trip to the top step of the podium.
“The race at Lime Rock was a hard one to swallow,” explained Gonzalez, “But it just gives us that much more motivation to get a podium this time around. With the four-hour race, we’ll have to be very careful and pace ourselves to last the whole race and put ourselves in contention for the win at the end.”
Alongside his co-driver and teammate Rory Van Der Steur, Gonzalez will run a practice session each on Thursday and Friday followed by qualifying on Saturday in preparation for the main event, the Road America 240, a four-hour race on the same day beginning at 2:15 pm Central Time.
Gonzalez added, “The goals are simple this weekend. We need to perform as we did at Lime Rock Park, and I am sure we will be fighting for the win!”
