With a dominating weekend one month ago, Georgia resident Tyler Maxson is returning to the TC Americas grid. Piloting a Copeland Motorsports Mazda MX-5, the two-time race winner from Sonoma Raceway back in June will look to do the same this coming weekend at the Portland International Raceway. Set to attack the twelve turn, 1.915-mile layout, the Copeland Motorsports driver is focused on points as he attempts to set himself up for a chance at the overall series championship.
“Sonoma was definitely a game changer for me as it provides a ton of momentum heading into the final half of the season,” explained Maxson. “Everything clicked at Sonoma and scoring maximum points has given me hope at a series championship. There is still a lot of racing left so I am not trying to get ahead of myself but just taking each weekend one step at a time.”
Crisscrossing his way across the country, Maxson has competed in several series to date in 2019. At only 14 years of age, he has a very bright future ahead of him in the world of motorsports. Leading Rookie of the Year honors in TC Americas and sitting second in the overall points battle, Maxson is also in the top-ten in points of the Battery Tender Global MX-5 Cup Presented by BF Goodrich Tires and only 33 markers in arrears of the Rookie point leader in that series.
Maxson continued, “I have learned a lot this year, and have had some great help along the way. I am focused on completing 2019 strong and then we will see what happens in 2020.”
On track action will begin Friday with practice and qualifying while wheel-to-wheel racing will take place on Saturday and Sunday. Stay tuned to the Copeland Motorsports social media pages for news, information, results, and photos from Sonoma Raceway.
