PODIUM RESULTS FOR MCDONALD AND TODD AS BR RACING EARNS TEAM AND DRIVER CHAMPIONSHIPS

It was the final Porsche Sprint Challenge North America event of the 2023 season and a podium-winning one for BR Racing. Despite the rain and challenging conditions, both BR Racing drivers, Blake McDonald and Robert Todd, earned podium results, with Todd also earning the 2023 Driver Championship and BR Racing also claiming the GT3 Cup and GT4 Team Championships.

“What a race and a season,” expressed BR Racing’s Bruce Todd. “We set our goals early in 2023 and achieved them as we carried through the year. To end on a high, have two drivers on the podium and score a pair of championships is the icing on the cake. The level of competition in this series in 2023 was very high, the fields were larger and filled with very accomplished racers, so to win against this group of racers is truly amazing.”

Taking place during the Indianapolis 8-Hour event, BR Racing hit the track Wednesday for a pair of practice sessions. With cooler conditions and rain moving into the area, getting a good read on what was needed for qualifying was challenging. With more rain on Thursday, Robert Todd used his experience to move his way to the top of the time charts to score the 992 Pro/Am pole position, with McDonald inside the top-five in fifth.

With more rain and extremely heavy at times, the first wheel-to-wheel action of the weekend took
place on Thursday afternoon. Keeping their cars clean and out of trouble, McDonald just missed his first
podium result of the weekend, crossing the stripe in fourth, two positions ahead of Todd in sixth. While
a sixth-place finish was actually better than what the strategy called for, as all Todd needed to do to gain the necessary points for the championship was to start the race, Todd started from the very back and steadily drove through almost the whole field to obtain the result.  The finish nearly guaranteed him the Porsche Sprint Challenge North America USA West by Yokohama 992 Pro/Am Championship.

“It’s not just one or two great results, it’s a whole year’s worth of hard work and the constant push for success,” explained Robert Todd. “I could not have achieved this without the help and support of BR Racing and all of our partners, customers, and team. What a year!”

Returning to the track Friday for the final wheel-to-wheel race of the weekend, it was a double podium result to close out the season. McDonald produced the best result of the year for himself, standing on the second step of the podium. Joining him on the famous Indianapolis Motor Speedway podium in the shadows of the Pagoda was newly crowned 992 Pro/Am Champion Robert Todd in third.

Bruce Todd added, “A double podium to finish on the season! What an achievement for BR Racing with six race wins, six pole positions, and the team being on the podium 13 times in 2023. Bring on 2024. The team did outstanding, the crew worked tirelessly, and the engineering and data driving us forward.  Can’t be prouder of what we achieved in 2023.”
