It was another trip across the country for the Cahan Racing Team (CRT) this past weekend as they descended into Lexington, Ohio, and the famed Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. Making the long cross-country trek from their shop in New Mexico, the team went home with some hardware, including one podium finish and four top-ten results.

Competing in the F2000 class and the F2000 Major Money Madness at Mid-Ohio, Gabriel Cahan battled at the front of the field for much of the weekend. Already a victor in Formula Race Promotions (FRP) competition in 2024, Gabriel Cahan qualified second for the first race of the weekend on Saturday but was unable to complete the race due to mechanical issues. Returning to the track Sunday and replicating the qualifying performance, Gabriel stood on the second step of the podium, his third podium finish in four races.

“It was a disappointing result on Saturday, but we proved we had the speed on Sunday and rebounded nicely,” expressed Gabriel. “We managed to pick up some precious championship points and some money for my efforts. It was my first time at the Mid-Ohio course, so I am happy to leave with some success.”

Ayrton Cahan competed in the talent filled F1600 class and showed huge progression throughout the race weekend. Again, a first timer to the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, Ayrton posted top-three results in practice, but qualified his CRT F1600 machine in the 21st position after rebounding from mechanical issues. That did not stop him as he progressed forward through the weekend to earn a pair of top-ten results. Moving forward in race one from 21st on the grid to 15th, Ayrton finished tenth in race two and closed the weekend in ninth, his best career FRP finish to date.

“Just like my brother, I learned a ton in my first two events of the season and was able to put a lot of that knowledge to good use as the weekend progressed in Ohio,” explained Ayrton. “The closeness and competitiveness of the F1600 field is crazy and it is a game of chess on the longer drafting circuits. I am already preparing for the next one.”

Next up for the Cahan Racing Team will be a trip to another new track, Lime Rock Park, over the May 23-26 weekend.
