It was the annual trip to Texas for the Toyota GR Cup North America program, and Paityn MaryJane was back in action with her Nitro Motorsports team. Taking on the fast and challenging Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas, MaryJane earned $10,000 in prize money after being named the Highest-Finishing Female in both wheel-to-wheel races.
“I am not happy with the results, but I am happy with the improvement,” expressed Paityn MaryJane following the event. “The field is very talented, and being off just a little can put you well down the running order. As a racer, I always want to win, but I still know that I have a lot to learn with these cars and will continue pushing to get better.”
Qualifying 27th for Saturday’s races, Paityn was able to keep her Snaptron / Shift Up Now / Nitro Motorsports entry somewhat clean and progress forward to finish 21st. Sunday, she returned to the track and qualified much better, but an incident in the race took her out of contention and classified her several laps behind the leader.
MaryJane continued, “My qualifying effort from Saturday to Sunday improved, which is great as I know I need to work on that. However, the improvement put me in the middle of the field where the racing can be a little aggressive. In the end, I did not complete the full race distance, but did continue to progress my learning curve.”
The next event for the Toyota GR Cup North America program will be a trip to Central Florida and the bumpy Sebring International Raceway. Taking place over the May 16-18 weekend, Paityn will aim to continue her trend upwards as she battles in one of the toughest single-make series that North America has to offer.
