Nicolas Stati is set to continue his rookie INDY NXT by Firestone campaign this weekend at the Grand Prix of Road America after missing Round Eight of the championship due to prior commitments. The 17-year-old Australian will be back behind the wheel of the #15 Cusick Morgan Motorsports entry as the series heads to Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, for Rounds Nine and Ten of the season.
The doubleheader weekend is set to deliver plenty of action as the INDY NXT field takes on the legendary four-mile, 14-turn circuit. Road America is a track Stati knows well from his junior career, having competed there in both the Formula 4 United States Championship and Formula Regional Americas. It was at Road America where Stati captured his first-career F4 U.S. victory, making the circuit one of the strongest tracks on his résumé.
Stati heads into the weekend with momentum after his standout performance in Detroit, where he charged to a career-best seventh-place finish in INDY NXT competition. In what the team has described as a developmental rookie campaign, Stati has continued to show steady progress and promise against one of the most competitive fields in INDY NXT history.
“I’m excited to get back to the INDY NXT championship,” explained Stati. “Road America is a track I’ve always enjoyed and one where I’ve had success before. Detroit was an important weekend for us and gave us a lot of confidence moving forward. As a rookie, every lap and every race weekend is a chance to learn, so the goal is to continue that progression, execute cleanly, and put together two strong races for the team.”
Stati added, “Missing the first oval event of the season in St. Louis was tough, but I am happy to be back and it’s full steam ahead from here!”
Track activity begins Friday with the weekend’s only practice session at 3:00 PM ET. Qualifying opens Saturday at 10:00 AM ET, followed by Race One at 12:30 PM ET. The doubleheader concludes Sunday with Race Two scheduled to go green at 12:00 PM ET.
