Advancing up the ranks in open-wheel motorsports, James Roe is set to compete in the 2022 IndyLights Presented by Cooper Tires program. Announcing TJ Speed as his team for the upcoming season, Roe is pleased to confirm Multimatic as Technical Partner in his growing list of supporters.
Multimatic will supply engineering support to Roe’s #12 Indy Lights machine for the duration of the coming season. Multimatic branding will feature on the Irish driver’s car, driver suit and team wear.
“I am honored to have Multimatic on board for the 2022 season. To have both the technical support and expertise that Multimatic brings to a program in my first season of Indy Lights is astronomical to my own technical knowledge development and the development of our package. At the end of the day, teams and organizations are about people and Multimatic has incredible people that I look forward to learning off,” expressed James Roe. “I want to thank both Larry Holt and Stephen Charsley for the opportunity.”
Multimatic Motorsports’ boss, Larry Holt, added, “Multimatic and the Roe family go back a long way via James’ Uncle Michael, the 1984 Can Am Champion. It’s good to see that the racer DNA passed to James, and we wanted to back him in this important year of his career. Jean-Francois Chretien, one of my original Multimatic Motorsports guys, with a huge amount of single-seater experience, will be James’ engineer as he takes on the ever-competitive Indy Lights Series. He’s in good hands, and we wish him all the best for the season ahead.”
With the Indy Lights program being taken over by INDYCAR and Penske Entertainment, 2022 is set to be one of the biggest seasons in regards to car count in recent years. With several powerhouse programs and new teams, competition will be tough as competitors vie to earn the series title and a chance to move to the NTT INDYCAR Series.
Roe continued, “The whole program on and off the racetrack has taken a step to the next level thanks to Roger Penske and his team’s vision of the Indy Lights series. I can’t wait to get started and look forward to flying the Multimatic flag.”
The first green flag of the 2022 IndyLights Presented by Cooper Tires Season will take place over the February 25-27 weekend at the Grand Prix of St. Petersburg.
