With a break in his schedule, Max Opalski is not enjoying the downtime. Spending much of his days skiing, skateboarding or on iRacing, the rookie driver is set to get back in the seat this weekend. Traveling to the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course with Copeland Motorsports, Opalski will be joined by Caleb Bacon and Ariel Castro in his first career World Racing League (WRL) event.
“To say that I am excited is an understatement,” explained Opalski, who made the full-time transition from karts to cars this season. “I am really looking forward to the race weekend and seeing what the WRL program is all about. I hear a lot of great things and the number of entries is huge, so I am ready to get back on track and see what we can do as a team.”
With a break in his Mazda MX-5 Cup schedule and Copeland Motorsports looking to get their WRL program off the ground and running, Opalski jumped at the opportunity to be part of two-car, seven driver team.
Opalski continued, “It is actually a great opportunity for me since I will be back at the same track only five weeks for the next round of the Mazda MX-5 Cup. I have been turning countless laps on the simulator in the past two weeks, but I’m ready to get back to the real thing. A huge thank you to Copeland Motorsports and all my partners for the chance to compete in my first ever endurance style event.”
Max Opalski and Copeland Motorsports will arrive at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course for load in on Thursday before eight hours of available testing on Friday. Saturday will feature the first of two eight-hour endurance races while Sunday will be the home of race two. Live timing can be found on the Race Monitor app, but you can also tune into the Max Opalski social media pages for constant updates from the event weekend.
