After announcing his intentions to rejoin Copeland Motorsports and the 2023 Idemitsu Mazda MX-5 Cup Presented by BF Goodrich, Max Opalski is finally ready for the first green flag of the season at the famed Daytona International Speedway. Set to battle a host of other hungry and talented drivers, the young sophomore will start his second season of MX-5 Cup competition as he looks to build upon experiences from the 2022 season.

“It’s a new season and a new opportunity for me,” expressed Opalski. “I am thankful to be back with Copeland Motorsports as they are proven winners and the consistency from year to year will be beneficial on both sides. My goals are simple in 2023, and I will work hard to achieve them.”

With an up-and-down season in 2022 that was filled with highs, lows, experiences, and knowledge-building, Opalski is aiming for a smoother season in 2023 with consistency that is rewarded with results.

Opalski added, “On occasion last year I was not as aggressive as I needed to be while other times, I was over-aggressive. The MX-5 Cup races are a high-speed game of chess and being in the right position at the right time is what is needed for success. I learned a lot last season from my team, teammates, and the scenarios I was forced into which all will make me a better competitor in 2023.”

While Daytona is the first event of the 2023 MX-5 Cup season, it is not the first event for Max Opalski this season. Competing in several test sessions and wheel-to-wheel races throughout the offseason, Opalski completed a Spec Miata event at the Sebring International Raceway that featured more than 85 cars on track at the same time. Continuing to hone his skills and build for the future, the offseason sessions, and experiences from 2022 are propelling Max Opalski toward the start of a successful 2023 campaign.

Max Opalski and the rest of the Mazda MX-5 Cup competitors will hit the track Wednesday, January 25 for one practice session before returning Thursday for practice two, qualifying, and the first wheel-to-wheel action of 2023. Race two of the season will take place Friday morning.
