Coming into her own in the 2016 racing season, Arizona resident and Team Koene USA driver Zoey Edenholm has the target placed firmly on her back. With wins in the SuperKarts! USA (SKUSA) Pro Kart Challenge and multiple podium results in the Rotax Challenge of the Americas, Los Angeles Kart Club (LAKC) and SKUSA Pro Tour, Edenholm will now begin preparations for SuperNationals XX as the current point leader in the X30 Junior category.
“It has been a great season so far but I am really looking forward to Las Vegas,” explained Edenholm. “I have had some up and down events but a good run at New Castle Motorsports Park for the SKUSA SummerNationals has put me back in the points lead and given me an opportunity to fight for a championship in Las Vegas.”
In her most recent SKUSA competition in Indiana, Edenholm claimed Saturday’s X30 Junior pole position in a strong forty kart field and raced her way to second and third place finishes in both Saturday and Sunday’s main events. Coming from deep in the field on Sunday after a less than par qualifying effort, the Tony Kart driver raced her way to the front showing speed and consistency.
“Zoey has been a great asset to Team Koene USA and has performed very well in both IAME and Rotax competition,” explained Team Principal Mike Maurini. “She has more desire and passion than most drivers her age and works hard to make sure she provides good feedback to her tuner/mechanic and works to make sure she is at the front of the field.”
Edenholm continued, “I am very thankful my parents have been really supportive of my racing and it means a lot to me. I am thankful to be on a team like Koene USA. They are always professional, very organized, and the coaching is the best I’ve received since I started racing. I believe my skills have improved tremendously after joining Koene USA. It made a huge difference in my mental attitude, skill, and feedback for engine and chassis tuning. I would also like to thank my engine builder, Woltjer Racing Engines for building outstanding engines for SKUSA competition and Koene USA for building great power in my Rotax engines. My mechanic and tuner Ricky Luther has helped me reach my goals and I appreciate his work. It has been a good year of racing for me and I look forward to bringing more podiums for Team Koene USA.”
Looking forward to the 2017 season, Edenholm will rejoin Team Koene USA and is working with the team to discuss the most suitable racing programs for her and any future career.
