JTR Motorsports Engineering closed out the 2026 Porsche Sprint Challenge and Porsche Endurance Challenge seasons this past weekend at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta, earning a podium finish in the Endurance Challenge while battling challenging weather conditions in the Sprint Challenge finale.
In the Porsche Sprint Challenge, Nick Shaeffer represented JTR Motorsports Engineering as the team’s lone entry in the GT3 Pro/Am class. Schaeffer qualified seventh for Race 1 and went on to bring the #282 entry home seventh in class, delivering a consistent result to open the weekend.
Shaeffer qualified sixth for Race 2, but unfavorable weather conditions ultimately forced the cancellation of the final Sprint Challenge race. The race will not be rescheduled, bringing JTR Motorsports Engineering Sprint Challenge campaign to a close.
The team then turned its attention to the Porsche Endurance Challenge on Sunday, fielding a single GT3 Pro/Am entry shared by Shaeffer and Rob Walker. The duo started third in class and maintained their position through the four-hour endurance contest, crossing the finish line third to finish the season with a podium result.
“It was a great way to finish the Endurance Challenge season with Nick and Rob bringing home another podium for the team,” said JTR Motorsports Engineering’s Dave Thomas. “We would have liked to get the second Sprint race in, but the weather made that impossible. Overall, I am proud of the work everyone at JTR has put in this season. We will take what we learned from Road Atlanta and carry it forward because we have no time to slow down.”
JTR Motorsports Engineering will immediately shift its focus to a busy weekend at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, where the team will compete in both the Porsche Carrera Cup North America and Mazda MX-5 Cup.
In Carrera Cup, Jared Thomas will return to the driver’s seat in the Pro class alongside teammate Rob Walker, who will compete in the Masters class. Thomas will also pull double duty during the weekend, joining JTR’s Mazda MX-5 Cup lineup alongside Justin Gravett, Glenn McGee, John Salerno, and Gresham Wagner.
“IMS is always a special place to race, and having both Carrera Cup and MX-5 Cup on the schedule makes for a very busy weekend,” added Thomas. “We have a lot of work ahead of us with cars in both championships, but that is exactly what we enjoy. We want to maximize every session, fight for strong results, and make the most of every opportunity we have at Indianapolis.”
