Coming out of the Sebring International Raceway with the excitement of being on the podium, Jimmie Lockhart has changed his focus as he enters next weekend’s USF Junior Presented by Cooper Tires event at Barber Motorsports Park. Racing out of the VRD Racing stable and after the results during the first event weekend in Florida, both Lockhart and his team are eager to get back on track in Leeds, Alabama over the April 27-30 race weekend.
Barber Motorsports Park represents rounds four and five in the USF Juniors championship for the 2023 season. The 2.3-mile, 17-turn road course is a new circuit for Jimmie but that doesn’t deter him from his overall goals.
“Although I haven’t had the chance to race at Barber before, I am looking forward to learning about the track and continuing the year on a high note,” explained Lockhart. “This year is full of new opportunities after taking a year off in 2022 and with wins and podiums in two different series, I am looking to continue that success.”
Racing alongside the NTT INDYCAR SERIES and INDY NXT by Firestone programs this coming weekend brings the incredible chance to observe how the drivers at the highest levels are racing the same track and attacking the same facility dubbed the Alabama roller coaster.
Lockhart continued, “It is a good chance for me to observe other drivers and programs and provide a clearer path of where I want to be in the future.”
Jimmie is excited to be taking the #48 VRD Racing entry back out on a new track and adding more laps in his USF Juniors career after his debut at Sebring left everyone looking forward to what’s to come for the rest of the season for the rookie driver.
