Entering his second consecutive endurance style event in the past three weeks, Jason Bell will partner with James Sofronas in his GMG Racing prepared Audi R8 GT4 LMS for the Michelin IMSA SportsCar Encore. With the 2019 racing season on the horizon and plans to formally be announced in the very near future, this coming weekend’s event will be the final event in his 2018 campaign.
Taking place at the Sebring International Raceway, Bell will not have to travel far as the Tampa, Florida resident will make the short two-hour trek south to join his California based GMG Racing outfit.
“I usually approach each and every race as the next one, but I am really pumped for this weekend,” expressed Bell. “We came off a pretty good showing at the California 8 Hour race just a few weeks ago and though the results were not what we had hoped for, our team executed the endurance race strategy to perfection as we had both track position and speed that were hampered by a few reliability issues.”
Bell continued, “The car has been completely gone through and we should be good to go. The nice thing about the California event is that we were leading at the four-hour mark, and this weekend’s race is only four hours in length so I am pretty positive.”
An added event to the 2018 schedule, the Michelin IMSA SportsCar Encore at the Sebring International Raceway is a tune-up event for the 2019 season. Providing teams and competitors to try the new Michelin Tire in race conditions, the event weekend is an important one, but not part of a major championship battle.
The IMSA SportsCar Encore event weekend will include a promoter test day open to all participants on Friday, November 9 before the official schedule for Saturday and Sunday commences. Saturday will house three separate one-hour practice sessions, with a fourth, 30-minute practice planned for Sunday morning prior to qualifying and the feature events.
