Descending on the bumpy Sebring International Raceway for the penultimate round of the GT America Powered by AWS program, Bell left the weekend with a podium result and the GT4 Championship point lead. Forgoing the Pirelli GT4 America race to focus on the GT America Championship, Bell will now head to the final event of the 2022 season as he looks to earn back-to-back titles.
“The goal for this season was to return and grab the championship again,” explained Jason Bell. “We have done a great job all season and put ourselves in the position to check that goal off the list. A huge thank you to all my partners as well as GMG Racing for the ongoing support. Let’s go get that championship!”
Qualifying eighth on Saturday morning, it was time for the first green flag of the weekend that afternoon as Bell started his quest for a race win from the outside of row four. Quickly moving forward to P6 during the opening few laps and gaining another two positions before race one was even ten minutes old, Bell would fight for a podium result late in the race. Making a pass with only three minutes remaining on the race clock, Bell, unfortunately, had slight contact that damaged one of his wheels. With the other competitor receiving a penalty for avoidable contact, Bell was unable to keep control of his GMG Racing prepared Aston Martin Vantage GT4 with a flat tire as he entered turn five and eventually contacted the barrier.
Bell continued, “We had some minor contact from earlier in the race that caused a tire to rub on the bodywork. Unfortunately, the rub got worse as the race went on, and punctured the tire only minutes from the finish.”
With a repaired car and starting fifth on Sunday, Bell was back with a vengeance. Moving from fourth to second early on, the #2 machine would begin to show tire smoke but continued to push on. Holding on to the second position on track, Bell celebrated on the podium and regained the championship point lead.
Bell added, “Saturday was not an ideal result for us and something we did not need battling for the title. Thankfully, we were able to come back Sunday better and strong to stand on the podium.”
Next stop for Jason Bell is the famed Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the GT America Powered by AWS season finale and a shot to become back-to-back champions. Bell will also take part in the Intercontinental GT Challenge Powered by Pirelli Indianapolis 8-Hour with GMG Racing.
Jason Bell would like to thank all his partners for their continued support this year. A huge thanks to Fidelis Capital, GMG Racing, Aston Martin Racing, MovoCash, Meat Market, and Paddock1 Garages.
