Closing the 2019 SRO Motorsports Group promoted GT4 America season this past weekend, GMG Racing driver Jason Bell scored a total of four top-ten results. Taking on the Las Vegas Motor Speedway Roval, Bell’s best results came from the SprintX division as he and Co-Driver James Sofronas secured a pair of podium results including the main event victory during Sunday afternoon’s race two.
Saturday saw James Sofronas put the GMG Racing on the pole position for race one of the weekend as he would stake the green flag for the first wheel-to-wheel action. Leading the majority of his stint, Bell climbed behind the wheel and continued to pace the SprintX field. Leading until the final ten minutes, Bell fell back to P3 but managed to hold on to secure their first podium result of the weekend.
“I really wish we could have stayed on top and it was just a matter of time before the competitors ran us down,” explained Bell. “Salvaging a podium result was the best that we could do, and it is on to tomorrow where I will start the race from P3.”
Taking the green on Sunday, Jason Bell solidified his position in the front quintet of drivers and held his own during the first half of the race. Biding time and keeping the leaders in sight, the goal was to keep in touch with the front of the field before the driver change mid-race. Handing the wheel to Sofronas for the final thirty minutes, the GMG Racing #2 Porsche took advantage of a late race caution to jump the competition on the restart and top the GT4 America Am/Am podium blocks, all while scoring a sixth place result overall.
Bell added, “Awesome way to finish the season. To close the year out with a win is great, and I look forward to spring boarding this momentum into 2020.”
Competing in the GT4 America Sprint races as well, Bell added sixth and seventh place results to his overall season total, adding to his top-ten consistency in 2019.
