Announcing formation of their new program and participating in the Michelin Tire Test last week, Alianza – Gilbert Motorsports has confirmed Anthony Simone and Jason Bell for the first event of the season. Taking place at the Daytona International Speedway January 4-6, the duo will look to take the Speed Syndicate supported Alianza – Gilbert Motorsports Norma M30 to the front of the field.
“Last week we announced Anthony and another competitor as drivers in our program, but as is the case in motorsports at times, some things change,” explained Lorne Kelly from the Alianza Motorsports side of the program. “We are very happy to welcome Jason Bell to the team and feel he will be a great fit. When presented with the offer, he jumped at the opportunity and we all cannot wait to get on track in Daytona.”
Jason Bell, a veteran racer who has competed in several forms of motorsports, will enter the high banks of Daytona and the Roar Before the 24 event for his first career LMP3 race. Currently a competitor in an Audi R8 GT4 LMS, Bell competed at the Michelin Encore in Sebring in December as he and his co-drivers claimed an impressive podium result.
“I have driven in several different events and vehicles over the past two years, and I have always had my eye on the LMP3 cars,” added Jason Bell. “I followed the Alianza – Gilbert Motorsports team during the tire test last week and they showed great pace. I have taken part in several endurance events throughout the 2018 season and understand the dynamics of a long race. My job is to keep the car out of trouble and help Anthony and I garner the best result possible. I know Anthony is competing for the overall series championship, but as drivers, we want to win and be on the podium, so that is the ultimate goal.”
“When Jason’s name came to our attention, there was not much research that we needed to do on him,” explained Alianza – Gilbert Motorsports Donald Williams. “He is often seen at some of North America’s premier facilities competing at the front of the field. It is great to have him join us in Daytona.”
“We would like to welcome Jason to the team with open arms,” explained Alianza – Gilbert Motorsports Henry Gilbert. “I am confident that we have the car, the crew, the team and now the drivers to challenge for a strong finish in Daytona.”
While Alianza – Gilbert Motorsports will debut as a one-car team at the Daytona International Speedway, the hope is to add another team car before the second event weekend of the season in March.
Kelly added, “We have several developments and programs in the works and hope to have announcements in the very near future. 2019 is going to be very big for Alianza – Gilbert Motorsports and January can’t come quick enough.”
With two practice sessions on the schedule for Friday, January 4, qualifying will take place later on in the day. The three-hour endurance race will kick off Saturday just after noon, as Simone and Bell will be aiming for the top step of the podium.
