Taking on the Sebring International Raceway for rounds three and four of the Toyota GR Cup North America Series, Nitro Motorsports brought Tyler Wettengel and Jade Avedisian to battle the old, bumpy Air Force base. When the dust had finally settled, and the two wheel-to-wheel races had concluded, both Wettengel and Avedisian earned top-15 results.

After a day of practice on Friday, qualifying on Saturday brought mixed results for Nitro Motorsports with Wettengel earning the ninth quickest lap of the session while Avedisian was involved in an incident causing a red flag, thus scrubbing her lap time. With the results official, the #80 of Wettengel started on the inside of row five while Avedisian would be forced to start shotgun on the field in 29th.

Avedisian had a spirited drive forward in race one, gaining 15 positions, going from P29 to 14th, the most positions of any driver in the field. Keeping her car clean and gaining experience, Avedisian learned a ton as she continued to turn heads in the GR Cup Series. Unfortunately, Tyler Wettengel was on the other end of the spectrum, falling 15 positions and ending race one in the 24th.

Returning to the Sebring Raceway Sunday, Avedisian earned one of her best qualifying results of the season with an impressive lap that put her tenth on the grid, five positions ahead of Wettengel in 15th. Swapping luck from the day prior, Avedisian could only complete ten laps before being classified 25th, with Wettengel ending his weekend in 15th.

“We have some work to do,” said Nick Tucker. “We won’t give up, and we will be back stronger in Texas in a few weeks.”

Nitro Motorsports’ Toyota GR Cup North America program will now shift their focus to the next event at the famed Circuit of the Americas (COTA) in Austin, Texas, over the May 17-19 weekend.
