Missing the first three races of the 2020 YACademy F4 Winter Series Presented by Hankook at Palm Beach International Raceway on Tuesday, Velocity Racing Development’s Hunter Yeany stole the show during the second official set of races. Taking place at the Homestead-Miami Speedway, the Velocity Racing Development (VRD) driver and Formula 4 rookie went three-for-three on the day to sweep the official wheel-to-wheel competition.
“Unfortunately, I had to miss the first three races on Tuesday,” explained the young 14-year-old driver. “It bothered me that I could not be with my team and battling on track. It gave me even more motivation when I arrived in Homestead to prove that I belonged there.”
Yeany continued, “The format of the YACdemy program is very cool. Two practices and then straight into qualifying and races with inverted grids, planned yellow flags and a virtual safety car to put all of us drivers through the entire learning process. At the end of the day, as a team we were able to perform very well and hopefully that is a good sign for the 2020 season.”
Showing poise, speed and a veteran style approach to his racecraft, VRD’s Hunter Yeany was the driver to beat all day long. Going three for three on the day, Yeany claimed a trio of victories in three wheel-to-wheel sessions and showed maturity beyond his years. Working his way to the lead after qualifying second, maintaining his lead after starting on the pole position and then slicing his way through the pack during the inverted grid race, nothing would or could stop the future motorsports champion.
“The first win is always hard to get but after that is out of the way, the rest become easier,” explained VRD’s Dan Mitchell. “I am expecting big things from Hunter in 2020 and this is only a start to his motorsports career.”
With the start of the F4 United States Championship Powered by Honda season just over a month away, Yeany will complete in several more planned test days before making his national debut at Road Atlanta April 9th through the 11th.
