With the Blancpain GT World Challenge America and Pirelli GT4 America programs heading west, Cameron Racing will enter four cars in their home event in wine country. Taking place at the 2.52-mile natural terrain road course of Sonoma Raceway, the Sonoma, California based raced team will compete in GT SprintX, GT4 Sprint and GT4 SprintX behind the wheel of the potent BMW machines.
“We are really excited for our home event this weekend,” explained Steve Cameron. “Our shop is located on site, our drivers are all from the area, and we are looking to continue the momentum from some great success in the first half of the season. We will definitely be looking to capitalize on a little home track advantage.”
Henry Schmitt and Gregory Liefooghe will pilot the #87 BMW M6 GT3 in the Blancpain GT World Challenge America SprintX Pro/Am division while Schmitt will pull double duty and also see action in the Pirelli GT4 America Sprint program. Liefooghe will also co-drive with Sean Quinlan in the Pirelli GT4 America SprintX portion of the schedule while Quinlan will run solo in the Pirelli GT4 America Sprint class. With four entries amongst three drivers, each driver will pull double duty at their home track.
Gaining much success in 2019 to date, Quinlan and Liefooghe have scored four podiums in the last two event weekends. Claiming a second place result on Saturday, and topping the podium blocks Sunday at the Canadian Tire Motorsports Park in Bowmanville, Ontario, Canada, the duo also scored second and third place finishes at the Virginia International Raceway earlier this year. Going back to March, the pair of California competitors added the SprintX Pro/Am and overall race win on Saturday before backing up their success on Sunday coming home second. Currently sitting second in the drivers’ championship points battle, Quinlan and Liefooghe will look to take control of the championship this weekend with more victories.
Cameron added, “It will be a busy, but hopefully successful weekend. We have put a lot of emphasis on performing well here and will leave no stone unturned in our quest for success. Additionally, we have a little bit of a family rivalry as well this weekend as Rick Cameron will be engineering our GT3 cars while we compete against Dane, who will also be running in the GT Pro/Am class. Not only will we fight for the win, but a little family bragging rights as well.”
Taking the green flag this weekend, on Friday Cameron Racing drivers will take to Sonoma Raceway for practice. Qualifying and wheel-to-wheel action will commence Saturday morning and continue through Sunday.
