The 2019 annual Chris Griffis Memorial Test is taking place next weekend, October 19-20, at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, and HMD Motorsports has added two drivers to their USF2000 machines. Beginning the work to expand their participation through the entirety of the Road to Indy program, HMD Motorsports will bring the pair of competitors to the test as both drivers will be making their debut within the Road to Indy.

As a Front-End Mechanic for NTT IndyCar Series driver Graham Rahal, TJ Thompson is no stranger to the Road to Indy and IndyCar paddock. Making his debut with the series, Thompson has grown up racing sprint cars and has past experience in midget oval racing. Most recently, Thompson has completed the Lucas Oil School of Racing and is ready to take on the Road to Indy in USF2000.

Also joining the team for the weekend will be Swedish driver Viktor Andersson. Most recently competing in the Formula Nordic Championship in 2019, Andersson was able to successfully finish the season in second place overall and first in the junior category. Andersson is the son of previous Indy Lights driver Mattias Andersson, who competed in a few races in 1998. Now, Viktor is ready to follow in his father’s footsteps and travel to the United States to try his hand in USF2000.

“We’re ready to officially begin our expansion in the Road to Indy,” said Team Manager John Cummiskey. “It has been a long process getting the new team organized, and we are finally getting to put the cars on track and begin working on improving our program in preparation for the 2020 season.”

Drivers will have the opportunity to hit the track a total of six times throughout the weekend, totaling 4.5 hours of track time with valuable learning opportunities.
