With the Formula Race Promotions (FRP) program coming to an end a few weeks ago, the Cahan Racing Team duo of Gabriel and Ayrton were back on track this past weekend. Competing at the SCCA Spec Racer Ford Festival at the famed Sonoma Raceway, the Cahans competed on track at the same time in the 29-car field that featured FC, FF, and FFT machines.
After winning the F2000 Championship in FRP competition earlier this year, Gabriel raced in the Formula Continental class in California with more success. After qualifying fourth and failing to finish race one, Gabriel returned to the track Sunday for race two with a vengeance. After qualifying on the outside of the front row, Gabriel went on to take the win and secure a new track record of 1:33.458.
“It was a great weekend in California, and always good to continue the development work on myself and the car,” explained Gabriel. “While we do not have plans finalized for 2025 just yet, the goal is to continue driving, improving, and winning as the race season continues.”
While Gabriel scored one-win, younger brother Ayrton went two-for-two in his two races this weekend. Racing in the Formula Ford class, Ayrton earned pole position in race one and went on to win. In race two, Ayrton again earned the pole position and capped off a perfect weekend with his second victory in as many days. Race two saw Ayrton grab the Sonoma Raceway FF track record, a time he lowered and reset on three occasions throughout the 15-lap affair.
“I feel like I have developed a lot as a driver throughout the year, and I was able to prove that this weekend,” added Ayrton. “Two pole positions, two wins, and a track record is something that I can be proud of and builds some more momentum for the future.”
With the majority of the race season now complete, Gabriel and Ayrton will continue to hit the track and hone skills as their 2025 race plans continue to get finalized.
