Set to take on the eighth round of the 2022 IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge, Tyler Gonzalez heads to Lime Rock Park in Lakeville, Connecticut to see if he can score another trip to the podium. A winner in other forms of motorsports in 2022, the young Floridian is still searching for his first career Michelin Pilot Challenge win as he drives alongside Rory Van Der Steur in the Van Der Steur Racing entry.
Putting his full focus on running the 1.5-mile track in his Hyundai Veloster N TCR this weekend, Gonzalez has his goals set high and his sights set on the top step of the podium.
“We’ve been so close to a podium, if not been on the podium, at most of the races this season,” explained Gonzalez. “We know that it’s very possible that we can work our way to victory lane this season and no better time to achieve that goal than this weekend. We had a tough go in Canada but as a team we have proved that we can compete with the best programs out there, and I have confidence that we will be able to battle at the front of the field once again.”
Looking to improve one area to better their chances once wheel-to-wheel action commences, Gonzalez puts his focus on qualifying.
Alongside his co-driver and teammate Rory Van Der Steur for Van Der Steur Racing, Gonzalez will run two practice sessions followed by a qualifying session on Friday, July 15th in preparation for the main event, the Lime Rock Park 120, a two-hour race on Saturday beginning at 11:05am.
