It was a trip to the Barber Motorsports Park and the Alabama Rollercoaster for the second stop in the Radical Cup North America program, and the newly formed alliance between RYNO Racing and Team Stradale found its stride. Running under the RYNO with the Team Stradale banner, the three-driver program earned one pole position, four victories, five podium finishes, and seven top-ten results to dominate the weekend.

Competing in the headliner Platinum class, Michai Stephens battled at the head of the field throughout the three wheel-to-wheel races, earning two victories in races one and three, with a trip to the second step of the podium in race two. Jumping into the SR10 hot seat from his acting role as Team Stradale’s Lead Instructor, Michai has come a long way after first googling how to become a racing driver with no motorsport background or go-karting experience. From 2012 to today, Michai has turned over every stone in his pursuit and is thankful to Team Stradale and affiliate clients for supporting his passion.

“To have been allowed to represent my home team alongside the guys and gals I share a 9-5 with was a real privilege,” explained Michai Stephens. “The weekend felt particularly special because of the family spirit and support surrounding our tent.  We expected the racing to provide an honest challenge as this was the team’s first time fielding a car in the Platinum class. But in credit to the Radical Cup competitors, there were some great examples to chase. In the end, the development and pace of our Platinum car took us to the front of the grid with many memorable moments.”

PJ Hyatt returned to Radical Cup North America after two years away competing across the globe in GT3 and LMP2 platforms. He immediately found his place at the top of the result sheets in Pro 1340. Earning the pole position for race one, Hyett went on to win not only race one over the weekend but race two before closing with a fifth-place finish in race three after a pit stop penalty for being a tenth of a second too fast leaving pit lane forced him back in for a drive-through penalty.

Fresh off having an appendectomy, RYNO Racing Owner Mike Anzaldi was back behind the wheel of his Pro 1340 machine. Qualifying in the ninth position. Anzaldi improved to eighth and seventh on the weekend’s first two races before closing his Barber Motorsports Park event with an eighth place on the results sheets.

Fellow Pro 1340 pilot and RYNO with Team Stradale teammate Ben Blander continues to expand on his quickly growing racing experience with another track and car combo worthy of any wish list. Scoring a sixth-place result in qualifying, Blander narrowly missed the podium in the first wheel-to-wheel action on the weekend, crossing the line fourth in race one. A disappointing P10 result in race two was thwarted by a solid drive to sixth in the third and final race after switching to a backup car, proving just how far he has come as a driver and building momentum toward the next event in June.

“It’s great that we are winning, but now that we have a taste of how good it is, it only fuels the passion even more,” explained Team Stradale’s Francesco D’Avola. “Leaving Barber with four wins and five podiums gives me the feeling that other teams and competitors will be out to get us at the next round.”

While RYNO Racing with Team Stradale continues to expand, interested competitors looking to join their team and the Radical Cup North America program are asked to contact either Team Stradale or Ryno Racing. The powerhouse program will continue to build on its current operations in the Radical Cup and will have several cars for rent for anyone who wants to try their hand at Radical racing.
