Already operating the Formula Pro USA Western Championships Presented by Exclusive Racing and the popular Formula Pro USA Winter Series, Exclusive Racing is pleased to confirm the Formula Pro USA Gen 1 Championship in 2024. Designed around the Gen 1 Ligier JSF4, the series will feature six race weekends, and twelve wheel-to-wheel races, with two race drops for the championship season. The series will be open to drivers as young as fourteen years of age.
“We are excited to launch a new series and open up our program to a whole new demographic of racers,” explained BD Morgan. “We want to give some of the new formula car racers and younger drivers an opportunity to hone their skills in a pressure-free environment as they look forward to a future career in open-wheel racing. Additionally, it will allow some of the older equipment that is being used around the country to have a new home and a place to race.”
Designed to run with the Formula Pro USA Western Championships, the Formula Pro USA Gen 1 Championship will share track time with the current F3 and F422 classes but will be scored separately. With the idea of keeping costs low to attract drivers and teams, the target market for the new Formula Pro USA Gen 1 Championship will be current kart racers looking to jump into car racing or gentleman drivers looking for some extra fun on the weekend.
Designed around the current Formula Pro USA schedule, twelve races over six event weekends with the best ten finishes to be counted towards the championship, race weekends will normally consist of a test day on Friday with a qualifying session and race on Saturday and a qualifying session and race on Sunday.
With the existing series already competing at popular West Coast venues such as Thunderhill Raceway Park, Sonoma Raceway, WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca and Buttonwillow Raceway, teams and competitors will get value in racing at some of the best facilities and iconic racetracks in the western United States.
Morgan added, “The series will be open to male and female racers and anyone who is fourteen years of age or more. The series will run on a spec tire and all cars will be held to a standard specification to keep costs down and focus more on driver training and development.”
