FORMULA PRO USA CHAMPIONSHIP BATTLES BEGIN TO HEAT UP

It was Sonoma Raceway this past weekend for rounds five and six of the Formula Pro USA (FPUSA) Championship and once again it was four different winners in the four races over the weekend. Taking top honors in the F4 class were William Ferguson and Athreya Ramanan while Alex Kirby and Kyle Loh scored race wins in the FR wheel-to-wheel events. With the season now at the midway point, six more race days are left in Portland, Monterrey and Buttonwillow.

“It was another great weekend of racing for us and the competitiveness in our series continues to shine with four different winners over the weekend,” explained Morgan. “The championship battles are beginning to take shape and we should have a solid finish to our season later this year. In the meantime, we have teams that have cars available, and they are offering arrive and drive programs. We want to continue to grow the footprint of the Formula Pro USA program, the breeding ground for the best F4 and FR drivers on the West Coast.”

On Saturday it was all William Ferguson that converted the fastest lap of the race into a victory as he steered his World Speed Motorsports entry to the top of the results sheet. Picking up the win and bonus points for fastest lap of the race, Ferguson extended his point lead as he looks to secure the Formula Pro USA F4 Championship. Doran-Kroll Competition’s Athreya Ramanan was the best of the rest earning the second position on the podium as he finished just ahead of World Speed Motorsports drivers Dan Deckler and John Holms.

Sunday would see Athreya Ramanan better Ferguson to take the victory, but he was unable to score the fastest lap of the race yielding those two bonus points to the current championship leader. Ramanan and Ferguson were joined on the podium by John Holms as Dan Deckler crossed the stripe in the fourth position.

Current F4 Championship Standings
William Ferguson – 139
Athreya Ramanan – 97
John Holms – 49
Dan Deckler – 45
Marco Kacic – 45

On the FR side of the program six drivers would battle the Sonoma Raceway with LA Prep’s Alex Kirby besting the rest of the competitors to earn the checkered flag. Championship leader and World Speed Motorsports entrant Kyle Loh salvaged a second-place result and the two bonus points for the fastest lap of the race with 2019 F4 Champion and Doran-Kroll Competition driver Marco Kacic on the podium in third. World Speed Motorsports put another two drivers in the top five as Jay Horak and Sean Prewett finished fourth and fifth respectively.

Kyle Loh would return to the top step of the podium Sunday and score maximum points on the day adding 27 markers to his championship total. Kacic bettered his Saturday’s result to improve from third to second as the previous days winner, Alex Kirby, added his second podium result in as many days with a third-place effort. Horak netted his second fourth place finish of the weekend and Margraf Racing’s Scott Vreeland pushed himself to the fifth position.

Current FR Championship Standings
