As the 2021 race season comes to a close, Fast MD Racing is already in full preparation for a complete LMP3 program in 2022. Attempting to return to the IMSA paddock during the Road Atlanta Petit Le Mans weekend, Fast MD Racing is working towards a complete LMP3 effort in the 2022 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship as part of their Road to LeMans program. Structured with highly qualified personnel and with a link to the Duqueine Group factory in Europe, Fast MD Racing’s goal is to unload and compete for race wins and a championship in their first full-season of competition.
“It has been a huge undertaking and many months of work, but we are finally prepared to return to the IMSA paddock and compete in the IMSA WeatherTech program,” explained Team Principal and Technical Director Remi Lanteigne. “We have left no stone unturned and spared no expense to bring this program to life. While Road Atlanta is an ambitious approach for us with 2022 the ultimate goal, it marks our commitment to have the best program in the LMP3 paddock.”
“Duqueine Automotive is proud to have Fast MD Racing in its ranks in the United States,” explained Max Favard, CEO of Duqueine. “The WeatherTech Championship is very strong and the races very prestigious! We are counting on Fast MD and will be at their side to make the D08 LMP3 shine. We are excited and anxious to work with them and help build their program.”
Traveling to Europe this past week, Fast MD Racing was on track with Duqueine Group factory representatives for an extensive two-day shakedown of their new LMP3 machinery at the specialized factory test track. Additionally, Fast MD Racing and Duqueine Group completed a two-day test at Paul Ricard to assist in the training of the crew and drivers for the LMP3 environment. Fast MD Racing’s James Vance was one of the drivers participating in the shakedown along with Road to LeMans Duqueine driver, and one of the top competitors in the ELMS program, Malthe Jakobsen.
“Switching back to prototype with a program that I have helped build is an incredible feeling. The team has been working so hard behind the scenes and it is exciting to start seeing the fruits of our labour,” added James Vance, who will be one of the drivers in the new LMP3 program. “The LMP3 class is growing at an exponential rate and the fact that we can capitalize on this in the top sports car championship whilst showcasing the Fast MD brand to the top of the sports world is an incredible opportunity. There is still a lot to do so the team atmosphere is very much of the mindset that we have to keep plugging away and bit by bit we will get there.”
Vance continued, “Going to Europe and working side by side with the factory at Duqueine was incredible. The learning curve was steep, but we just focused heavily on the LMP3 program, and they helped us through every bit of the car and platform meticulously.”
Following the test, the car was shipped to the United States and will be immediately trackside at Road Atlanta for a test to prepare for the Petit LeMans on October 20-22. Completing the test and with six days on the brand-new car, Fast MD Racing will return to their shop in Tampa, Florida to undergo a complete overhaul and prepare for the famed Petit LeMans. Following Petit LeMans, Fast MD Racing will take part in the 24 Hours of Creventic the following week. With drivers set to be announced shortly, Fast MD Racing has select opportunities for the remainder of 2021, and onwards into the 2022 race season.
Lanteigne continued, “Pretty exciting time when you look back where we were a year ago. There have been massive efforts made from every department in the team to get everything done in a short period of time. I must thank Duqueine Automotive who have welcomed us in their extraordinary racing family. Being immersed with them in Europe for a week to understand test and prepare our North American entry has just been incredible. They will provide great track support as we progress in the IMSA WeatherTech series. Also thank you to IMSA for their incredible support and help to move up in their ladder series. We are ready to show up with a rebranded team, new crew from around the world that chose to join us from the top level of DTM, LMP2 and with multiple world championships to their names. We want to come in strong and that’s what we plan to do!”
