The F4 United States Championship Powered by Honda series continued with their 2023 season this weekend on the lengthy track of Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin. As a winner already in the 2023 season, Carl Bennett was hoping to add to his resume and help push the Gonella Racing outfit back to the top step of the podium.
“It was a good weekend, but not a great weekend for us,” explained Bennett. “We had the speed, but caution periods fell at the wrong time for us. It was frustrating, but I think our pace in qualifying and the first race proved that we have what it takes to run at the front of the large F4 grid.”
Qualifying his Gonella Racing entry in the seventh position, race one on Saturday proved to be Bennett’s best result as he successfully found his way around the 14-turn, 4.048-mile facility. Driving forward to finish sixth, Bennett added more points to his championship total.
Races two and three on the weekend did not go as well for Bennett. With 11th and 13th place finishes, Bennett finished just outside the points but completed the full race distance and gained experience along the way.
Bennett added, “I had a taste of winning in New Orleans earlier this year and am hungry to get back to the top step of the podium. My next chance will be in July at New Jersey Motorsports Park, and I am looking forward to the opportunity.”
In just a few months to the next wheel-to-wheel action, Carl Bennett will shift its focus to Spain before returning to the F4 United States Championship Powered by Honda event at New Jersey Motorsports Park.
